BIOGRAPHY: Minister in the Reformed Church (now United Church of Christ, UCC) and later the Presbuterian Church.
There are, unfortunately, no records of his parents or ancestors.BIOGRAPHY: It is only known that he had 3 brothers in Wisconsin, but no further information concerning them.

BIOGRAPHY: Well known writer of early Ohio pioneer life, nature,
many hostorical articles; an early conservationist.After the death of her father Andreas Schifferly, her mother sold
the farm and lived in Bluffton, Ohio.She had 2 sisters - no brothers - Elma (pianist)
and Hulda (Krankenpflegerin - attending old and needy persons).
They had a small house in Bluffton where they lived.Bertha Louis is a graduate of Bluffton College in 1909 at a time
when few women attended college in those days.4 children:

Hulda Eugenia (Porter)In Grossmama's 60's she finally got to doing what she had been
wanting to do all her life - but was too busy raising her 4
children and enrolled in a Creative Writing course at Western
Reserve Univ. in Cleveland.
She had a number of articles in NATURE magazine, The TORONTO STAR
newspaper and many articles about early German and Swiss emigrants
in the Bluffton Newspaper. She was an early exponent of ecology
and preservation of nature in all aspects.
Later remarried to Mr. Hollinger.

BIOGRAPHY: The Schifferly family lived in Tennessee since 1872.
BIOGRAPHY: Baptized by the pastor Dr. Albert Bitzius of the Lützelflüh Reformed Church 10 October 1794.
Came to the States in 1853 with her parents.
Daughters Elma (died Dec. 1964) + Hulda (died Apr. 8, 1976).
They lived on Andreas Schifferlys farm 4 miles s.w. from
Bluffton, Ohio.
DEATH: Died of 1a-grippe. (Grippe is the German word for flu).
BIOGRAPHY: "Der Schmied-bub Uhli" (as he was called, to distinguish him from his cousin by the same name on a neighboring Stalder homestead) his wife & two small daughters came to Ohio in March 1853. Two brothers, John & Frederick, and a sister, Anna Barbara were also in that party.
The group left Switzerland with the idea of going to Nebraska Territory. When they reachee Wayne Co, Ohio some of them were not sure they wanted to go further. Not until 1857 did Frederick and John with his wife and 2 children, and Anna Barbara and her family start to Nebraska.
Ulrich bought land in eastern Ohio and moved there Oct. 1857. They lived near Bluffton, Oh. until March 1872 when they moved to Belvidere, Tenn., where was a new Swiss farming community established by Swiss pioneer families from Wayne Co., all of whom were members of the St. Paul's (Swiss) Ref. Church in Mt. Eaton, Oh. He sold the farm in the 1890's and bought a colonial house in Winchester, Tenn. which is now an Art Center & School of Art.

BIOGRAPHY: Charlotte, herself, was an only child and had only one child (Ursula), but raised 15 other children as a foster mother in Berlin, Germany.
Since she didn't marry August-Wilhelm Zanzig, she remained a Schulz.
